Management Committee Meeting

January 10, 2005

Back to minutes index

Present: Gene Langlois, Jonathan Machen, Kathryn Alexander, Kabir, Tammy Lynn, Jim Harrington, Alex Wilson

The previous meeting's minutes were approved.

Discussion of  Home #70's Retaining wall - what has been done? There has been no activity yet (since then Jonathan has talked to Loretta and mentioned this discussion) Alex determined: it is necessary to cut back the bank and pitch it; hand work is needed, since machine work would be too logistically impossible. The bank needs to be cut back 3 feet at the top and pitched it down to existing width at bottom, and maybe lay back some blocks that are currently forming the wall  - this  would be a rather time consuming job; also, it's the wrong time of the year.

Resolution: Hast has been informed of our discussion and what we want to do.

We had a discussion on what to do with people who haven't paid their rent. The new general policy, still under discussion, might involve giving those with unpaid back rent a 'clean slate', or a chance to start at Zero. Under this new policy, we are thinking of starting the eviction policy for residents who have not paid rent in three months. Hast will continue to work with people for solutions during those three months, but the new eviction policy will be an enforceable reality.  When th City of Boulder owned the park, an eviction policy was not enforced.

Gene Langlois, # 77, is the point person for new residents to talk to once they move in. Hast management is giving new residents' Gene's telephone # so they can be informed of what is happening within our park. His telephone # is 303-444-4988

Kathryn Alexander, community coordinator, talked about the need to create community within the park, as well as the need to engage in fundraising. If we show that our community is raising money for our own needs, it will also help with getting grants. Ideas from the community are welcome. The issue of community also comes up when trying to find solutions to residents' problems, for instance, how do we as a community help when someone cannot clean up their yard up or has no money to pay for burst pipes?  All these items were discussed in detail and a few residents with problems were mentioned, as well as solutions explored. A  skill-share type exchange might be possible among residents in the park, as well as tapping into available city programs for home rehabilitation or finding other volunteer services. Tapping into the volunteer connection might help residents as well.

The MHA now has a place to get mail delivered: the washouse office. It will officially be #64. Alex Wilson helped cut a mail slot in the door.
