Volume 10.2 Newsletter of the Mapleton Home Association April 2005- MHA Board Elections
MHA Board Elections Are Going To Be Exciting
The MHA will be holding elections this April 24th at the Quarterly Meeting. President, Vice President, Secretary and Management Committee Chair are all up for grabs.
Mark Reeder is stepping down as President. “It’s been nine years since the MHA was formed, and I guess I’ve been pretty active for most of that,” Reeder told the Mobile-izer. “It’s time for other people to get involved and take this organization to the next level.”
Tammy Lynn who has served as MHA Treasurer and currently is the Vice President and a member of the Management Committee will be stepping down as of April 24th to pursue other activities.
Nick Tamm, who is the MHA’s acting Secretary, has tossed his hat in the ring for President. Jonathan Machen is running for the MHA’s Management Committee Chair, which is now a board position.
No resident as yet has submitted his or her name for Secretary of Vice President.
“All residents are encouraged to run for office or join committees,” President Reeder said.
Community Coordinator Fund
Kathryn Alexander, the MHA’s Community Coordinator, was recently diagnosed with a tumor on her liver and will be undergoing therapy to remove it. Like many of us mobile home park dwellers, Kathryn does not have full medical insurance coverage. Because of Kathryn’s outstanding service to the MHA and her vital role in making Mapleton a resident managed, permanently affordable housing community, the MHA is collecting donations for her Please be generous and give what you can to help. Make checks payable to Kathryn Alexander or give cash. Drop all donations off at Nick and Maria’s home #41; Silvia and Jorge’s home #143; Jonathan and Paige’s home #25; or Mark’s home #14.
In the meantime, Kathryn continues to carry out her duties with the MHA, attending meetings and writing grants to help us maintain Mapleton as a resident managed Park.
Construction Liaison Needed
by Mark Reeder
The Mapleton Mobile Home Park has need of a resident volunteer who can act as a liaison between the General Contractor and the residents during the upcoming infrastructure work. He or she will attend weekly meetings between the Contractor, Thistle and the MHA; field phone calls from residents and pass along comments, complaints and compliments to the contractor; and pass out flyers to residents to update them on the progress of the work and when certain events need resident participation. If any resident is interested, please contact any member of the Executive Board. (Eds. Note: Executive Board names and phone numbers can be found on page 2.)
Resident Reminders
By Julie Morris
As we transition from City to Thistle Community Housing ownership under the Mapleton LLC, we’d like to remind residents of some of the rules that make living in the Park better for all residents.
1.Cats are allowed if tagged with owner's name and phone #, spayed or neutered, with current shots and are registered with Hast & Co. They are to remain inside their home or on leash or attended at all times.
2.Please, help us keep the washroom clean & neat. No bicycles or skateboards stored inside.
3.Please, keep sidewalks clear of bushes, grass, dirt and cars. Also, homeowners are responsible to clean snow from the sidewalk adjacent to their homes.
4.Please, obey speed limits and stop signs within the park.
5.Please, do not put trash & recycle materials outside of bins. If bins are full, please check other bins within park.
We now have a SUGGESTION OR REQUEST BOX for maintenance concerns located on Manager's porch at Lot #181.
We appreciate your cooperation and want to work with you to make OUR PARK look beautiful.
Joining the U of C Federal Credit Union Is As Simple As Signing Your Name
by Mark Reeder
A little while back, the MHA and the U of C Federal Credit Union came to an agreement which allowed Mapleton Mobile Home Park residents to become members of the Credit Union. Since then, any resident who wants to establish accounts at the Credit Union just has to walk through the door and fill out the paper work. I don’t know about everyone else, but the idea of walking into a bank, waiting around for a customer representative, then filling out the paper work, waiting some more, while the representative chats on the phone or fiddles with your application, having them probe and prod at you for 45 minutes to an hour and then waiting some more, has always been tedious to me and something I would avoid, like root canal surgery, unless absolutely necessary. NOT SO AT U of C FEDERAL CREDIT UNION. It was fast - I was out of there in under 20 minutes; courteous - my customer representative paid attention to me; I got free checking, a new, upgraded credit Card and overdraft protection.
My customer service rep, Michelle Wear, was very considerate, answering my questions and pointing out services that did not cost me extra, while showing me all the choices I had. She ran through everything efficiently, including ordering my new checks, a credit card and walking me through the Credit Union’s online banking procedures. And I was out of there with time left on my lunch hour.
Afterwards, Richard Shaw, a Credit Union loan officer, called me up at home, following up on my credit card application, and within three hours of my walking into the bank, approved me. Everyone from the receptionist on up was courteous, prompt and good.
So give them a try. It’s good for you; it’s good for them. And they’re close by, over at 30th and the Diagonal in the northeast corner of the Albertsons Shopping Plaza. Or give them a call at 303-443-4672.
